DTC Botswana Hosts Shining Light Diamond Jewellery Design Workshop

The Diamond Trading Company Botswana Shining Light Awards for Excellence in Diamond Jewellery Design showcases the creativity and talent of designers from around Botswana. The objective of these awards is to develop both technical and design skills of local designers as well as provide a platform for designers to showcase their work locally and internationally.

Intrinsic to this diamond jewellery design competition is the Design Workshop which will be held on Thursday 11th February 2010 at 14h30 at the Thapong Visual Arts Centre in Gaborone. All students of jewellery design, and those involved in the jewellery and creative industries or anyone with a flair for design is welcome to join DTC Botswana and technical design experts from the Oodi College of Applied Arts and Technology at the design workshop. Past Botswana Shining Light competition winners will be in attendance and will be facilitating and providing feedback to attendees on their design submissions for the 2010 competition.

‘Enduring Bonds,’ is the theme of the 2010 competition. This theme is based on the idea that a bond between two people; or a bond between people and anything they may have an affinity for is unique and endures over time. “The Greek Heracles knot has always been a symbol of emotion and strength, and in all its various interpretations, it has communicated the subtle message - the harder you pull on the knot, the tighter the bond and connection.”
With the deadline for submission of final entries on March 1st, 2010, those wishing to enter the competition still have time to refine their designs and submit their renderings to DTC Botswana, Plot 63016, Block 8, Airport Road, Gaborone.

Before submitting the final renderings, DTC Botswana encourages all entrants to take advantage of the upcoming workshop and benefit from the opportunity of receiving training on a holistic approach to design.
