Commemorating our 2025 Global Safety Day: Standing Up For Safety

On 29th October 2025, DTC Botswana (DTCB), in partnership with De Beers Global Sightholder Sales (DBGSS), proudly commemorated Global Safety Day—an annual initiative led by the Anglo American Group. This day is dedicated to prioritizing safety by creating space to reflect on performance, celebrate safety leadership, and reinforce our shared commitment to a zero-harm culture.

This year’s theme, “Stand Up for Safety. You Make a Difference,” encouraged us to acknowledge the meaningful contributions we each make toward safety, health, and environmental stewardship. It also served as a call to action to take ownership of our individual responsibilities and the impact we have within our organisations.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Thabile Moipolai, Senior Vice President People Partnering – Diamond Trading (De Beers Group), emphasized that “Safety is not just a moral imperative—it is a strategic one. Whether at work, at home, or in our communities, safety protects our people, our performance, and our future.” The event featured insightful contributions from DTCB and DBGSS speakers, as well as distinguished representatives from the Botswana Police Service, whose perspectives reinforced the collective responsibility we all share in fostering safe environments.

The day was filled with engaging and celebratory activities, including storytelling, gamified safety awareness sessions, and recognition awards. Highlights included the First Aid Competition, Visual Felt Leadership, and Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Champion Awards. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all winners and teams, and express deep appreciation to every employee who continues to put safety first.

Ms. Natasha Mulenga, Chief Financial Officer at DTC Botswana, captured the spirit of the day perfectly: “Today was more than a programme—it was a powerful reminder of what it truly means to stand up for safety. Safety is personal. Safety is powerful. Safety is ours to lead.” We remain steadfast in our commitment to building a culture of safety and continue to educate our colleagues, visitors, and partners—including contractors—on our journey toward becoming a zero-harm organisation.
