DTC Botswana hosts Dr. James Robinson (2024 Nobel Prize Winner)

Today, DTC Botswana had the honour of hosting the 2024 Nobel Prize Laureate in Economics, Dr. James Robinson. His visit formed part of the ongoing collaboration with the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy under the Botswana Dialogue on Leadership and Prosperity initiative.

The purpose of Dr. Robinson’s visit was to engage with DTC Botswana’s leadership, exchange perspectives on global industry best practices, and explore potential areas for future collaboration. During the engagement, the DTC Botswana team provided an overview of the company’s operations, followed by a guided walk-through of the sorting floors, where Dr. Robinson and his delegation gained firsthand insight into the diamond sorting process.

Our Managing Director, Ms. Serty Leburu, welcomed Dr. Robinson and expressed gratitude for his interest in visiting the facility. She highlighted the importance of fostering strategic partnerships with global institutions, noting that such collaborations help amplify Botswana’s diamond narrative and broaden international understanding of the country’s success story.

Dr. Robinson shared that this was not his first visit to Botswana, adding that the country’s economic journey has long captured his interest. He noted that Botswana’s diamond story has featured prominently in several of his writings and reiterated his commitment to supporting broader platforms that showcase Botswana’s economic achievements. He emphasised that engagements of this nature have the potential to cultivate meaningful opportunities that benefit both parties.
