7: Polishing

The same method of polishing – grinding on a ‘scaif’ or polishing wheel – has been used for centuries. The wheel, which is coated with a mixture of diamond dust and olive oil, was invented in 1456.

Cutting and polishing a diamond bring it to life. In the hands of master craftsmen, known as diamantaires, rough diamonds are transformed into beautiful gems sparkling with brilliance, fire and light.
