Today, Diamond Trading Company (DTC) Botswana had the honour of hosting His Excellency President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, along with his ministerial delegation. The visit was graced by crucial representatives, including Honourable Wynter Mmolotsi, Acting Minister of Minerals and Energy; Honourable Dr. Phenyo Butale, Minister of International Relations for Botswana; Ambassador Andrew Sesinyi, High Commissioner of Botswana to Rwanda; and DTC Botswana’s Managing Director, Ms. Serty Leburu, who highlighted DTC’s dynamic role in the global diamond industry.
This visit marked a significant step in fortifying the already robust partnership between Botswana and Rwanda. It provided a valuable platform for sharing expertise, exploring new opportunities for collaboration, and fostering mutual growth.
Rwanda’s mining sector is a powerhouse, hosting Africa’s largest tungsten mine and ranking among the top five global producers of tantalum. The country is shifting from small-scale operations to formalized practices rooted in value addition – an approach that closely aligns with Botswana’s own mineral sector and DTC’s strategic focus on innovation and excellence.
While more collaboration is desired, this visit highpoints DTC Botswana’s unwavering commitment to excellence and international cooperation. It highlights the importance of strengthening both diplomatic and industrial ties, paving the way for sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
Together, Botswana and Rwanda are paving the way for a resilient and innovative diamond industry, demonstrating that strong partnerships can unlock new opportunities on the continent.
