Oman and Botswana Strengthen Bond Through Historic State Visit Focused on Diamonds and Economic Collaboration

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman undertook a significant two-day state visit to Botswana from September 16 to 17, 2026, marking a milestone in bilateral relations. A centerpiece of this visit was his visit and tour of DTC Botswana, the world’s largest and most advanced diamond sorting and valuation facility, symbolising Botswana’s thriving natural diamond industry. The event was attended by Botswana’s President, His Excellency Advocate Gideon Duma Boko, alongside senior government officials, industry leaders, and key stakeholders.

Led by Minister of Minerals and Energy Bogolo Joy Kenewendo and DTC Botswana Managing Director Serty Leburu, the delegation showcased the country’s comprehensive diamond value chain – from mining to market. The visit highlighted the important role of DTC Botswana in driving economic growth, fostering innovation, and maximizing value from diamond resources for the nation’s benefit.

Abdul Salam Mohamed Al Murshidi, President of the Oman Investment Authority, signifying high-level commitment to collaboration. The visit reaffirmed Oman and Botswana’s commitment to strengthening ties, particularly in sectors like diamond trade, investment, and economic development.

Through this engagement, Botswana continues its efforts to unlock the full potential of its rich natural resources while promoting sustainable development.
