DTC Botswana recently welcomed young athletes participating in the XXII Africa Aquatics Zone IV Swimming Championships for an educational tour of its operations, offering them a unique opportunity to learn about Botswana’s diamond journey and the transformative role diamonds play in the country’s development.
During the visit, participants gained valuable insights into the diamond value chain, from the journey of a rough diamond to its sorting, valuation and eventual sale to international markets.
The tour highlighted DTC Botswana’s critical role within the global diamond industry and its contribution to sustaining Botswana’s position as a leading diamond-producing nation.
The young visitors also learned about the far-reaching impact of diamonds on Botswana’s socio-economic development. Presentations and discussions showcased how diamond revenues have supported the country’s growth by funding infrastructure, education, healthcare and other public services that have improved the lives of generations of Batswana.
The visit also demonstrated DTC Botswana’s commitment to fostering awareness among young people about the industry’s contribution to sustainable development.
For many of the visitors, the tour was their first exposure to the inner workings of the diamond value chain, making it a memorable and enriching experience alongside their participation in the regional sporting event.
