In a significant advancement for the mining sector, the Diamond Trading Company Botswana, in collaboration with The Projects Magazine, unveiled the inaugural Botswana Mining Coffee Book Vol. 1 yesterday in Cape Town, coinciding with the 2025 Mining Indaba.
The event was hosted by the Honourable Bogolo Kenewendo, Minister of Minerals and Energy, alongside Mr. Sedireng ‘Sed’ Serumola, Managing Director of DTC Botswana. Under the central theme, “Developing mining value chains for the next chapter of Botswana’s economic growth,” the publication provides a comprehensive analysis of the current landscape of Botswana’s mining industry, showcasing its adaptability in the face of global market fluctuations and sector-specific challenges.
During her keynote address, Honourable Kenewendo emphasized Botswana’s remarkable achievements in resource extraction while calling attention to the untapped potential within the mining value chains. She articulated that the future of the industry lies in enhancing beneficiation processes, expanding manufacturing capabilities, and fostering innovation. By establishing robust regulatory frameworks and efficient operational processes, Botswana aims to create an investment-friendly environment that fosters long-term growth and success for stakeholders.
Mr. Serumola emphasized the critical importance of publications like Botswana Mining Vol. 1, which are instrumental in facilitating knowledge transfer, attracting investment, and fostering international collaboration. He articulated the publication as a comprehensive chronicle of Botswana’s mining evolution—chronicling historical achievements, current operational landscapes, and aspirational future goals. Mr. Serumola further stressed that in Botswana, investors are not just stakeholders but are regarded as valued collaborators in the nation’s economic transformation. He also highlighted the necessity of developing skills that align with today and tomorrow’s industry needs, recognizing that future growth will depend on a workforce equipped with skills and competencies required to adapt to emerging societal needs and technological trends.
The launch was attended by a diverse group of international mining leaders and investors, alongside the Botswana delegation at the 2025 Mining Indaba, marking a pivotal moment for collaboration and investment in the mining sector.
