DTC Botswana Invests in Future Stars

The second edition of the Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) and Botswana Football Association (BFA) girl’s specific Grassroots festival continued this past weekend in Selibe Phikwe. Over sixty (60) girls attended the football extravaganza, which is a series of football festivals played across the country with the aim to expose many young girls to football. The DTC Botswana entered into a three-year sponsorship deal with BFA to grow both Grassroot football and the National Women’s League.

Commenting on the football festivals, DTCB’s Corporate Affairs and Social Performance Manager Mr. Kago Mmopi said: “We are committed to the development of football in Botswana as DTCB and that is why we are investing in sports, particularly women football. We are thrilled by the high levels of enthusiasm and passion demonstrated by the girls in football.”

He concluded by saying that: “As DTC Botswana, we are excited by the increased number of participation in the two regional Associations we have been to, that is in Jwaneng and Selibe Phikwe.”

The Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Football Association Mr. Mfolo Mfolo hailed the football stars and encouraged them to take the football sponsorship by the DTCB as a rare opportunity. “You are the stars of today, tomorrow and of the future and we are looking to you to represent us at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2037 and beyond.” When addressing the participants, Mr. Mfolo said the youngsters will be stars of tomorrow who will feed into the youth leagues, Regional leagues and eventually the National Women’s Teams.

The last leg of the football festivals of the year will be hosted by the Francistown Regional Football Association.
